Through her church and private sources she counseled troubled and at risk teenagers for over 30 years. On May 24,2011 the Bonta family was attacked by three men with Neo Nazi Affiliations, one of which was the son of a retired Lyon County deputy. Instead of charging the attackers with a hate crime, law enforcement defend them and charged Bonta family with a series unsubstantiated crimes. Family members were incarcerated and denied medical attention. After pressure from the Native American community, the FBI and the Federal Criminal Justice system begun an investigation into both the attack and the civil rights violations by the Lyon County Law Enforcement.
